Tips for Getting into Engineering

Posted by  admin | November 12, 2019

Here at Steel Delivery we are proud to supply steel to a range of companies in the engineering sector. This industry is a rewarding one but can be difficult to get into. With hard work and passion, you may just have a chance of getting into the field! In this blog we are going to be offering some top tips to help people who are looking to get into engineering.

Apprenticeships

In the modern day, university is an option, but it certainly isn’t essential. There is a huge amount of engineering apprenticeship opportunities available. If you’ve had trouble finding someone who is hiring near you, why not take your CV into local engineering companies. Going the extra mile like this will make a great first impression. With an apprenticeship, you can pick up the valuable engineering skills you need to progress, along with a qualification.

Learn from the best

The engineering industry includes some of the most knowledgeable people around. It always helps to find Twitter and Linkedin pages from people who are well know in the sector. Following these pages will give you a great insight into the industry. You could even try contacting these professionals with questions and with luck, you may get expert replies!

Interview skills

If you are not used to an interview environment, it would be highly beneficial if you start practicing. To get into the engineering industry you will need to either attend university, complete an apprenticeship or get a relevant job. All three of these things will rely on you making it through interviews. A great way to practice is to ask your family or friends to interview you with on the spot questions.

Whether you are a budding engineer reading this or somebody who has vast experience in the industry and wants advice to pass onto someone you know, these tips will make for a great starting point!
