About our Steel

Posted by  admin | September 9, 2019

Here at Steel Delivery we are proud to offer a wide range of different steel types to our customers around the United Kingdom. Whether it’s for personal use to aid a hobby or you need steel to complete work in your engineering business, we’ve got the products to help! Understanding steel is key to ensuring you make the right purchases for your needs. In this blog we are going to be telling you about some of the steel we have to offer.

Ground Flat Stock
Ground Flat Stock is, otherwise known as Gauge Plate, is a high-quality tool steel often used for making knifes. This type of steel is known for it’s ductility and ability to be crafted into different shapes easily. It is for this reason that it is so popular among bladesmiths. Due to the steel’s versatility, it is also a go-to for many other metalsmiths in general.

Silver Steel
Silver steel is also sometimes called high-carbon bright steel and is yet another steel used for crafting a range of tools. The high-carbon alloys are used to produce knives, razors, drill bits and hand tools. This steel tends to be used when the steelsmith is looking for something with high levels of strength and durability.

Keysteel
Keysteel is an unalloyed medium carbon steel which has reasonable tensile strength. It is known by many as either Key Bar or Key Steel. This form of steel comes in long bars. Whilst not always as ductile as some other steels, it can be easily cut into shape.

Shim Steel
Shim Steel tends to come in the form of a thin piece of material, used by engineers to fill small gaps or spaces between objects. This would usually be in order to support, adjust for better fit, or provide a level surface. We offer an incredibly handy product, Shim in a Can.
